overdose with homeopathy in Mexico City on the ALM

Mexican Skeptics are going to commit suicide on 5 February.

And no, there is a date which will end the world, at least that date is not on the dates of the psychic, nor for any comet.

This is a good experiment that was conducted in England , Australia, and now in Mexico and other cities in other countries. A group of activists of science and skepticism will carry out a "collective suicide" using nothing less than homeopathy.

You say, "Well no we've been scrub and scrub that homeopathy does not work ?"

That is why the experiment. To raise public awareness about the knowledge of what is the farce of homeopathy, what better thing to overdose to show that it contains nothing but water.

The event is organized by enthusiasts Mirror Skeptical (the same who brought the event, Skeptic's in the Pub, region 4)

From his blog :

Protesters in Mexico City will take bottles entire homeopathic pills
the February 5, 2011 at 10:23 am, outside the Federal Health Ministry (Liège No. 7, Col. Juárez, DF) in an attempt to increase public awareness
fact that the "remedies" are NOT
effective homeopathic, putting pressure on pharmacies and health providers to ensure that
products sold as treatments
doctors actually work.

So now you know, if you live in Mexico and you're skeptical and you like what is called Science Based Medicine , and I shit balls homeopaths, find a way to go out there, lost make up the numbers.

Apparently, everyone has to buy her a homeopathic remedy, at least that is what I understood from a review of Adam in the Mirror blog skeptic. This is the only concern I have is that some manufacturers feel that homeopathic remedies can add any substance which is in the pharmacopoeia. View this entry . Just make a careful about what they are buying. And remember that the more diluted, more overdoses.

Success!

AC, and the new forum Atheist from Mexico

You may not know, and if you do not know, the one time I talk. I am a member of Atheism from Mexico (ADM) and as I have and I think two years. This blog is also hosted there, and I found good cyber comrades.

ADM has a story about politics and insults mother. The first (which I learned I) was Noah Garza, requesting donations for the site when the site was coming out free agandallándose the show, and shortly before he left, he resigned several users, including some of the moderators, just by their exem.

ADM continued with a new council, and fucking went there, when everything began to fall apart again because of the Mexican Symposium Atheism (CMA). From there, it complicated things a bit.

The conference took place, and the same, some board members announced the creation of a civil partnership, which is called ALM AC (Mexican Atheists and Freethinkers, AC).

forum Some people believe that ADM should remain as an Internet forum that allows free thought, expression as you want what you want. The forum is chidas things, discussions of science, atheism, liberal arts, jokes, music, video, a good option for atheists.

Some other people think, we should take the activism beyond an Internet forum, more interactive, that is why AC ALM was formed. Although currently there is a full page of information to talk about what goes ALM AC.

So far, so good. If you like, well, at that, too.

The reason for my post, is the domain of the site.

Previously, when Noah was as general manager, the place was called http://www.ateosmexicanos.com/ , which, when Noah was discovered in his fraud, eliminated the Mexican atheists domain and we ran out of the site. It was then unknowns, ramasknight , Tork, prufrock , among others, came together and walked http://www.ateosmexicanos.org/ site for the community would not suffer with change. They did a great rapidity, and the community was not affected. The themes were there, as the users who had been removed. Technical work are tough.

Gradually, some members of that council were leaving for personal reasons, all these council members were replaced by new members.

Some of these new members, founded what ALM is the AC, but decided that now http://www.ateosmexicanos.org/ ALM will be for AC, and created http://www.ateismodesdemexico . org / for the ADM board. In short, the former site of ADM, is now the site of AC ALM without the consent of the members of the forum.

A very bully action because the expiration of the income of the site is approaching. Do not tell anyone the end, only paid, they changed the rotation, and "donated" http://www.ateismodesdemexico.org/ page for ADM board. This site again going to be in the name of one of the old council, and if he wanted the forum, as they had to pay.

Although several people we asked the council why the action, there was no clear answers, and simply said they saw no problem.

Some of his answers were also "because if you had gone to the conference, you would have heard", in other words, it was not, was scrubbed. Chale. As if you were forced to go to find out the new course of the forum.

A detailed written more than a gossip, is here.

BC by féisbuc The ALM have already started to encourage people to join this civil organization, and when there is not much to say about them because the page is under construction.

For my part I will not join because:

- http://www.ateosmexicanos.org/ are the same as agandallaron the site. Will not be in the future and this is not the money, but new interests.
- They are not transparent in their actions, before they took audio, blogs, evidence of actions, which were stopped since they entered the council obviously self-interest.
- Do not respond when they make their trácalas. They questioned why they made the change of rotation, and no response. It is obvious that they're gandallas, but never will recognize.

Who wants to be in such an organization? I'll pass.

one that is well known in the world of atheism, is said to dear God do not need to promote values, which is true. But it is also true that being an atheist does not take away the bully. Maximum should be reminded that out there ... "Thou shalt not steal." Furthermore

Forum atheism from Mexico and is ready in http://www.ateismodesdemexico.org/ the same users, same passwords and everything. Thanks to Rodrigo Alvarez put him biscuit and coconut, and besides the new logo was left low. If you want to throw

a dive site is very good, is an interesting forum users, there are philosophers, naturalists, humanists, science enthusiasts, experts in theology, hedonistic, a range chida to learn from everyone, of course, there are believers and chidas threads arm. Turn around, it's worth.

ANDREU Mint Candy (Gong, 1979) BABY GRAND

"Ya No More"

July
Andreu This album already we posted a couple of years but thanks to Miguel Blanco received first hand information. July

Andreu was the drummer of the best group of Valencia at the time beat: Hurricanes . Excellent musician, composer and creator of most of their songs on stage for EMI. Gifted with an extraordinary imagination, reflected in his musical ideas, he managed to surprise many and still continues to do ... He was a born creator!. He came to combine music with other arts such as painting, photography and drawing, besides being a professor at the Polytechnic of Valencia.

This album was a personal challenge for him. Madrid was just looking for help because she ran out to die Juan Camacho was going to make you work. Upon arrival contact was made and realizing Movieplay Gonzalo García Pelayo who it was opened all the doors and got him to the best musicians of the moment, the chorus La Red de San Luis and any collaboration like Pedro Iturralde which explained the one in July that he wanted, and he approached him the idea.

For a month they were in Madrid Kirios studies, learning and arranging the songs from the demo that he and I had recorded in my home for several months. Jony Galvao, excellent fellow guitarist made some impressive arrangements for what was heard then. Julio, was not a singer, using the voice as another instrument, you have to listen globally and see the difficulty and originality of his music. The style is adapted to what was taking at that time. The promotion was limited, the company was in trouble and spent the little money he had in Pablo Abraira was best known. Preferred to leave to lose the millions of then took the recording and editing, with the consequent disappointment of my friend Julio and all knew him as a musician and person value. MICHAEL WHITE

The GT-200, good for detecting ... antidiarrheals? Children

Yesterday I spoke to my cousin Tavo and said

- My friend, I have a story ... directly to the blog.

told me that while he was headed for Laredo, Texas, on the Mexican side began to pile up the cars and began to crawl.

Cabe mencionar the scanner was passed by the two sides of the car and in the front and back.

Another soldier came to Tavo and touched the window

- Excuse me, are you taking any medication?

break, one of two, or GT-200 detects drugs, or while they are also detected in the blood system. All right.

My cousin, skeptical, followed a little stream:

- No, I'm not taking drugs. But to bring this about Lomotil do not know if this is what is causing the problem.

The soldier took the envelope and it was, he returned to where he was the other soldier with the unit, which gave him another Tavo scanned the car, but now the antenna and my cousin said no, but the soldier with the envelope of lomotil.

The soldier went back to my cousin and asked him what it was used this medicine:

- Ah I take it that when I bring jet.

The soldier, a little surprised with the answer, and said nothing, and let it go.

This is a totally scientific proof that the GT-200 is used to detect anti-diarrhea medicines.

We talked about the GT-200 "works" because ideomotor effect and that, scientifically speaking, taking into account the materials it is made (plastic and metal, without batteries) and the fact that it is hollow inside, has no way to detect something. For all that is good - other than to detect Lomotil - is to detect gullible people.

recently shared in a féisbuc Article who sent me the blog Ribozyme Carthago The Zombies where analyzed in a very detailed and good Calderón why not should have gone to war against drug trafficking. Basically, the article mentions that the resources and the conditions under which Mexico has a drug war was a bad move because the prisons are not controlled, there is too much corruption, many officials involved, there is no intelligence, a country north which is the most consumed drug, and if we add that people who are critical controls do not have a pinch of skepticism, even though the British government (country from where are these aparatejos) has warned Mexico that do not use these dowsing rods, we're really in the hole.

The Seeds / The Royal Family - Split 7''(2008)

Album that compiles one of the last works of the late singer and guitarist Sky Saxon, recognized as one of the pioneers of psycho garage in the 60's.

The first cut "Halt!" California with the legendary band The Seeds (written in 1989 and recorded in 2007) and the second "Amnesty" with The Royal Family, both filled with repetitive sounds, a simple but ideal body for each song, a voice that seems to come from another dimension and a discreet fuzz that transports you to different places, in short pure psychedelia.

Science Skepticism on television

I recently read the following story: 10 years girl discovers a supernova . Kathryn

Aurora (an appropriate name) Gray became the person youngest to discover a supernova. Something that will make you doubt the will for life positively.

But Kathryn is not the only girl in bringing things to the science and understanding of our universe.

Maya Kaczorowski, a girl of 13 years, conducted an experiment very tasty. She wanted to know about headache causes an ice cream too fast. So I conducted an experiment in which basically instructed some children to eat ice cream quickly, and others who do so slowly. The result was yes, how fast you eat ice cream, influences the headaches, which pass within 10 seconds. Their study was published no less than the Brittish Medical Journal in 2002. Not bad for a girl of 13 years.

Jake Tyler Carstensen Kellet and discovered a fossil of a mastodon in Colorado. To go from curious explorers stumbled upon a part of mastodon tusk. The remains may be 50,000 to 150,000 years. The Colorado Museum expert says that mastodon fossils are rare in the state, and this is the best find of all. According to the article was to evaluate the possibility to dig deeper. Kellet and Carstensen do want to dig more, want to find all the mastodon!

Or how about Serena Fasano that at the age of 13 he discovered a protein in the yogurt that has the ability to kill the bacteria Escherechia coli, a bacterium very pesky.

stories which I found more information are the first two. And both found something very interesting, something that both stories share, which are key to these girls have discovered what they discovered. Parents. The féisbuc

shared a video of a talk in Google Talks Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson , a girl of science and science popularizer. In the video, he mentions that he is concerned about children in science, which he concerned are adults. Adults are those who say "Oh, the world will end in 2012," that children do not tell. Adults are those who say "read me my horoscope, tell me if I will find money tomorrow." Children do not read horoscopes. Children are perfectly happy to count the number 13. They are comfortable going under a ladder. If you see a black cat passing in front says "Hey, kitty, kitty," I want to fuss. Children are not the issue here. How right

Dr. Tyson.

The June 4, 2007, she Carolina Cruz Aranda read the following speech (Written by) in the Mexican Congress of Pediatrics in the WTC Mexico City.

"People today do not care about science, are more interested in football. Newspapers rarely have notes on science and radio and television almost never. Published only when something happens they can not hide, and when the moon was Neil Armstrong. Everyday displayed
football notes, player interviews and gossip to tell his life: that if Galilea Montijo was Cuauhtemoc Blanco's girlfriend ... but do not take into account that we are entitled to be well informed about science. And as we both know football so little and so poorly of our scientists embarrassed. This is the case of Guillermo Haro. Guillermo Haro, Mexican astronomer, discovered many comets and celestial bodies and do not even have a biography.

I have visited nine major libraries and none have anything on him. Why give more support to the players that the scientists? Are they better people? Do you produce more wealth? Do we have more fun? I do not think, thanks to the scientists also have fun, they invented computers, iPods, simulators.

addition, except in some cases, football players make us look very bad world and our scientists, that no one supports. I'm sure Mexico is among the countries with some of the best scientists. Moreover, we do look good. Paralympic athletes are like that, without support, win medals.

Why not support an excellent education? We are entitled to it. Do any of you know Guillermo Haro? I guess very few. And no, not their fault: when our football team win games of little importance to the President congratulated them and interview them everywhere. When Guillermo Haro discovered several red and blue stars just congratulated other scientists ...

Thanks to science we heat food in a few seconds in the microwave, thanks to science our mothers spend their life washing diapers. These inventions are the result of space missions. For scientists our clothing is light and warm. They can read while the sun sets or hundreds of miles to see a football game.

Do you like color television? I never met a black and white and color television was invented by Guillermo González Camarena. Thanks to the Mexican scientists can better see the stars as they build the best lenses of astronomy.

A year ago the Institute of Astronomy, UNAM posted to the Canary Islands for a precision instrument that will be the world's largest observatory. It has nine lenses and 270 pieces ...

And watch stars should matter because we are, as Carl Sagan wrote, "stardust", hence we came. Developed countries like Germany, Japan and the United States spend a lot of scientific support. Mexico increasingly spend less, and despite this we have great scientists like Guillermo Haro, who lived and died a stranger.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Mario Molina was born in Mexico, but had to go to America. Unfortunately it is not the only case. Many young scientists do the same.

Could not our government invest more in education? We have the right to an education of excellence.

I am sorry that our government and our businesses to invest in football and we are so bad. It pains me to invest so little in science and be as good. We have the best university in Latin America according to the newspaper Time and increasingly fewer resources to give the UNAM. Why not support what already works? A country which does not invest in science and education will always be a poor country do we want a poor Mexico? Will we let our Mario Molina is going to other countries?

Poor Mexico our as "close" to the football and so far from science.

Very true what you say Carolina.

littered No children, garbage as horoscopes, astrology, superstitions, gods, saints, UFOs, all that we demerits as a species, and soon we credulous of any nonsense that comes before them, because yes, what we tell them as authority, take it very seriously .

is better to encourage curiosity, questions, although one does not know the answers to why there are libraries, the Internet, so the weapons. Let curious to why they are children, to discover.

Note: This scientific curiosity also applies to musical curiosity. Please believe me, ask Brian May, with a degree of doctor in astrophysics and apart is the guitarist for the legendary rock band Queen .

Gold Bars Through Airport

without sleep. A couple of news blogs were around last week were skeptical at first instance, a program of English skepticism and a little bit of skepticism on Mexican television.

Program "Skeptics"

Luis Alfonso Gámez, author of the blog Magonia , English television enters the program Skeptics and the first issue is: We went to the moon?

A good topic to start, because, in culture, is tucked doubt that if we went or not. I once had a talk with someone about the subject matter, he thought that we had not gone, I argued yes. When I questioned why he believed such a thing, he said he had seen a "special program about it." Obviously I asked if he had given the task of investigating the counter, I said no. It has happened with several people, do not know why the effort to deny the trip, and do not know why the efforts of television documentaries on spending to sow doubt. That's why the program skeptical, "We went to the moon?, I think an excellent place to start. And, according to the twitter of Luis Alfonso (@ lagamez), the television channel ETB and wants 12 more chapters. Congratulations.

With the advantages of technology, here we see the first program of skeptics, which encanta'o me.

Here also you can see http://escepticosetb.blip.tv/

A skeptic dad fraud gang Power Balance

In Australia, the sellers of fraudulent bracelet, known as Power Balance , drove them say that your product does what they say they do and sent a statement in which, with the tail between the legs, acknowledge that:

CORRECTIVE NOTICE

Power Balance Bracelets

"In our advertising we ensured that the bracelets Power Balance improved strength, balance and flexibility . We admit that there is no scientific evidence credible to substantiate our claims ".

" If you feel cheated by our promotions, we ask our sincere apologies and offer you the possibility of recovering money "

Translation: We are sorry, try to see his stupid face.

So, apart from recognizing that their product is crap (a plastic strip and a hologram ), they had to reward people who felt deceived. A good lesson.

The bracelets are sold in our country, as you can imagine. That's why I liked the participation of Daniel Zepeda, blog A skeptic dad in a TV Azteca. I was surprised that a space devoted to skepticism, and I share the program, though very short, as already lost. And I liked the announcer has said "the swindle of the Power Balance," calling it like it is a real scam.

As we saw, yes you can learn on TV, not just the knowledge we can make reading a lot, and hopefully more news to come of this.

Leap of Andrew Wakefield, and fraudulent study: the Autism is not linked to vaccines. New date

There charlatans charlatans. There are some that are humorous and ridiculous, like the sorcerer more. There are others who live on another planet which makes you see them ... as if we really are from another planet, and Jaime Maussan. These two are not so dangerous, if at all can blame them - especially Maussan - is to send messages and information Conspiranoids totally wrong.

But there are dangerous charlatans, and I mean a degree level of danger to world health. I speak specifically of Andrew Wakefield.

Andrew Wakefield is a doctor (here it is the maxim " the doctor does not remove the asshole" ) which, together with other doctors, in 1998 published a study of 12 children ("12?" Just?, cost reduction, I guess) to which associated a link between the MMR vaccine (MMR, Measles, Mumps and Rubella or MMR, in English) and autism. The article was published in The Lancet .

2010, a journalist, Brian Deer made his task of investigating Wakefield, and it ended up that The Lancet removed the item because they had ethical preoupaciones by the methods of Wakefield. So far, everything seems to Wakefield, in his eagerness to "scientific" was a relationship, but this was denied.

The problem comes in that the Wakefield study raised a number irrational fear of vaccines in the United Kingdom and United Estdos. As a result, groups like Age of Autism or SafeMinds were created, raising propaganda Fear of vaccines and spreading misinformation to the public in general.

Proponents of this movement as a defense have something that is called whenever there is conspiracy in relation to health, the movement of Big Pharma (or Farmafia, says @ rolanddt of Fuzzy Logic ) .

Irrational fear meant that parents do not want to vaccinate their children for fear of having autism, as a result. Which is unfortunate because that seemed controlled diseases arise again as the whooping cough and measles ).

These groups have in their having a count of dead ones. It is hard to imagine that health agencies take no action against these charlatans.

However, the journalist Brian Deer (which should be given credit for his excellent work as a journalist for 7 years in this case) uncovered a cloaca regarding Wakefield's original publication (as a journalist and would like to investigate the molecular detector, not that Mr. Santos Mondragón Televisa).

Comod said, Lancet , removed the article by Wakefield in February 2010, saying he had ethical concerns. But now we discover that not only is bad science, but there is false information, misrepresentations, distorted information to achieve personal interests, lies, the test subjects were chosen in particular, were not random, there was no negative controls, some already display features of autism, several months after they developed the vaccine. Not only is bad science, but this was deliberate. What worse than a charlatan, with the media, and with a specific agenda. What a bastard disgust. The Age of Autism movement and accuse Wakefield himself Deer to be sold under the Farmafia. Typical.

This has not stopped the anti-vaccine movement, on the other hand, Wakefield is now regarded as the victim of Farmafia as a martyr.

Why am I interested in this? Ultimately, it has a profound impact here.

I do not know why this is but we are prone to copy bullshit and half northern neighbors (did not go to the moon the conspiracy of September 11, etc), not wanting to let it land, I know a gringo good for my work and my closeness to them and I have good comrades, but that there there are lunatics.

is important to note that vaccines, like all drugs, not 100% safe or effective. A bad stick, a trigger anaphylactic shock allergy, wrong dose, a number of risks taken when receiving an injection. However, all this is subject to regulations, practices and workouts are not 100% sure, but it is so and it is the best we have at the moment.

leave is a fact that the vaccine is a global risk, there is no better method of preventing infections that vaccines. Method, we must not abandon, if not, the consequences are severe .

is not enough the fact that Wakefield falsified his study to reject the link between autism and vaccines. There has been a significant amount of studies confirm that there is no such correlation. Orac's excellent blog Respectful Insolence (maybe not know but Orac is David Gorski in Science Based Medicine another bitchen blog of Medicine) is in a good number of entries Information from these studies. If you have a joke, it's worth taking a lens.

It must be difficult having a child with autism must be desperate. Poor poor little kids and parents too. They are a population susceptible to emotions and to want to seek a response to the disease, which, when no cure. Can easily fall into the trap of anti-vaccine movement, but it remains to educate and speak clearly. At the time, better information with which account tells us that there is a link between autism and vaccines to prevent diseases.

hope that this movement does not get to have the mismas consecuencias en México que las que ha tenido en Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido.

What I despair of the matter is, of course Wakefield, but so soft authorities there. Not only here but around the world to let this flight charlatans literally bring people to the grave. How do I change that? That's the million dollar question.

Of the 12 co-authors of the original article in The Lancet, 10 authors have requested that their names be removed to Wakefield withdrew his medical license in the United Kingdom, has been brutally beaten by bloggers , and on CNN, Anderson Cooper put a real sponsor. Without doubt, this is the coup de grace for Wakefield, unfortunately That will not stop the anti-vaccine movement, that damage has been done both.

Here the video of Anderson Cooper.

From page of Mr. Brian Deer , I took this chronology of events of how he sank the dagger in Wakefield. Chulada of pela'o.

end of the world according to the Bible

normally Bible stories make me laugh, some things are worth others. But others are worth people trying to interpret and "predict" the future and the end of time.

As drool Michael Drosnin says that Bible codes are indicating that the United States could have a terrorist attack with a nuclear weapon in 2011 or 2012. That apparently Bible code reveals that Pakistan's nuclear weapon, but that orders to attack will come from Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The Bible Code apparently points Osama Bin Laden has left Afghanistan and that his office is in Yemen. Although the Bible does not say the exact location of Bin Laden (how convenient), the Bible Codes suggest is in Yemen.

Net, is there someone who created this crap? Why Dear God clings to send lazy, stupid and only a few can play?

little bit I do not doubt that there are people who believe this bunch of crap. There are people who cling to interpret things in the Bible, some things do have meaning, some not, but this gentleman who is screwing me out of the pot. Note

I put the words in italics: would seem to suggest . Nothing concrete. This does not differ much from Nostradamus and pulled.

Another case is that of Harold caping, which says that after studying the Bible, concludes that the world will end on May 21, 2011. This one I like, is a specific date.

This group is doing its best to tell half the world about this event. I would miss some powerpoint presentations in a not too distant fuuro (yes, I'm making a prediction.)

But remember some predictions that have failed in the past.

  1. William Miller in 1843 after studying the Bible said that between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844, everything would change. Changed the date to April 23, 1843. Many people sold properties, y. .. nothing happened. Great disappointment .
  2. the Joseph Smith of the Mormons did his, and said he spoke to God in February 1835 and he told her everything was going to end in 56 days.
  3. Pat Robertson said that in late 1982 would see a doomsday.
  4. Ronald Weinland said that in 2008 sounded the first trumpet, and in 2012 we are going to suck headlights. Has anyone heard the trumpet? I do not.

resemble what all these? They are Americans and are well apart in assholes and they failed miserably to predict because we are still here.

as some people understand that there will be a final trial and that the dead will be raised (which would be cool because we would see zombies) and the like. But trying to figure things out in a book that was written long ago, which was written when we were either ignorant of what was happening around us, and amazing things as coming from the water, a burning bush that never burns out, a snake very talkative, a person living in a big fish, I think it's going, and not to the extreme, but out of bounds.

If any readers of this blog believe faithfully in the world will end on May 21, 2011, give me your email address to send my bank account and I store all of their wool. At the end of the day will no longer need. If you do believe this date and does not give me the wool, then they are very ill-believers and Satan will be waiting with open arms. Are warned.

Arthur Lee & The American Four (1964) Les 5

Before becoming leader and founder of Love and one of the most influential composers of the late 60's and a landmark in California psychedelia, Arthur Lee was known as the composer of several songs for artists such as Rosa Lee Brooks Little Ray or , besides playing with a small R'n'R group called The American Four .
Here are four of his songs recorded during the first half of the 60 and released in '45 in 1997. Including the single that grazed the American charts in those years Lucy Baines.

stray bullets, "mortals? Something about Religulous

In short: it is highly unlikely. A stray bullet or a shot in the air can cause a painful injury to the recipient of the bullet, hardly mortal. Endanger the health of others to satisfy a desire to make loud noises changuil at will is not enough excuse to fire into the air.

Before reading about it and do a few numbers, I thought the stray bullet was not more than urban legend. I hold it very unlikely that you can kill, but if you are unfortunate enough to receive a stray bullet hit is equally possible that a delicate site. Is unlikely to be fatal for the same reason that employees of airports do not die from air screws missing: the target and the missile are too small compared to the space around them.

Assuming that the bullet hits, what can we conclude from a more or less realistic scenario? It is advisable to start with an idealized version of the event to get some conclusions that help simplify the real problem. Empty stage in the following extract:

  • Neglecting air resistance, a bullet fired vertically * return to the ground as quickly to its release.
  • mass and shape of the bullet are irrelevant in this case, so that a bullet fired vertically takes ~ 1 min to return to the soil (assuming an initial speed of ~ 250 m / s).
  • The highest point of the trajectory of the bullet, it stops completely, since it reverses its vertical speed and begins to descend under the influence of gravity alone.

* For 'vertically' understood an angle sufficiently close to 90 ° as to be considered a loose cannon and not the crowd.

Closer to reality, we must consider that we live in air. This medium offers resistance to movement and different models (determined experimentally) to deal with the scenario. The mathematical model I chose has 2 dependent terms of speed, also called: and pressure damping term. In this link find an excellent class (video) 50 minutes on the subject.

The important detail on the issue of air resistance is as follows: any viscous medium presents a speed limit for an object in free fall. This limit (called terminal velocity) occurs when the resistance of the medium is equal to the weight of the object falling into it. The limit depends on many factors such as object shape, density and half thereof, among others. Some of these factors also depend on other variables, eg density of air depends on pressure and temperature. Ie not the same fire in the air in La Paz in Havana, much less so in summer than in winter. It is virtually impossible to establish the conditions to declare, once and for all, if a stray bullet can kill you or not. Too many mechanisms involved. Best we can do is to analyze some of the cases and draw conclusions without extrapolating too.

A bale of 10 grams as an approach spherical, diameter 12.2 mm, fired vertically and ignoring the wind (but not the air itself, 1 atm and room temp.), Will return to the ground with a speed of ~ 60 m / s . This is 25% of the speed with which it leaves the barrel but enough to penetrate human skin, according to this article . In this case, the mass of the bullet does play an important role in determining the terminal velocity in air. A 5 g bullet has a terminal velocity of ~ 40 m / s, and a 1 g has a terminal velocity of ~ 18 m / s. The small sizes do not are more dangerous than a flying dove with heart failure and their chelas Sunday roast. Conclusion

A bullet fired into the air can severely injure the recipient. It is very unlikely to be lethal, but dangerous enough to recommend to find temporary shelter if someone thinks it relatively close to you (just heard the shot to be in the area).

Shooting into the air in a populated area is a foolish and irresponsible act. Best kiss your girlfriend or boyfriend and take another beer.

Happy New Year to all. PD

Here is "the numbers" in case you're interested.
